The District Department of Health's HIV/AIDS Administration will begin offering a newly approved oral HIV test in September. The test, which can be used in nonclinical settings and provides same-day results based on a sample of saliva, was approved in March by the Food and Drug Administration. It will be on the market this month. The department already uses the OraQuick rapid blood test for HIV.
